I've been thinking about those of us highly sensitive beings, and how to thrive with joy in the midst of so much uncertainty these days, Beauties.
Years ago I read a book entitled "Too Loud, Too Bright, Too Fast, Too Tight" (author Dr Sharon Heller). In those pages I found so many answers to my wonderings about my own behaviours ~ being overwhelmed by crowded spaces and hectic environments... the need to simply withdraw and be alone... reacting more deeply to the sights / sounds / emotional cues / other stimuli around me. Many highly sensitive beings need to excuse themselves from high-stimulus environments, often having a refuge where they can be alone and ground themselves.
On the plus side, we sensitives tend to be empathetic, artistically creative, intuitive, and highly aware of the needs of others — so much so that we thrive in careers as therapists, counsellors, artists, musicians, and writers.
We also deal with overwhelm, exhaustion, and burnout, especially from “absorbing” or sensing all the emotional cues of the people around us. Loud, crowded, or visually busy spaces can also overwhelm sensitive people — any strong sensory input can.
Does any of this resonate with you, Beauties? I thought it might...
Especially now, shifting from lockdown scenarios into our new identities and creating our new journeys moving forward, there can be heightened excitement as well as unsteady ground beneath our feet. Knowing this, it feels important to find the places... spaces... places in our hearts and in our minds that can keep us in joy. Here are some thoughts that may help:
✨Choose to consciously continue to cultivate a slower, simpler pace of life.
✨Find the place where you can "exhale"... that calm, quiet refuge you can retreat to.
✨Give yourself permission to feel. Feel everything. Open your heart... sing... dance... cry... express... laugh...
✨Connect deeply with those you resonate with; feel okay about being selective about the ones you choose to be in relationship with.
✨Self-care is paramount ~ sleep, healthy meal options, making best choices regarding how we medicate (allopathic or recreational).
✨Spend heaps of time in green spaces! Being in nature soothes the spirit... the beauty rejuvenates and boosts our connections.
💛Your sensitivity is one of your greatest strengths, Beauties ~ use your creativity as your personal "pressure valve". Channel that energy, those insights and emotions into what brings you joy.
💛And let your spirit soar.
Thanks for reading all the way to the end, if I’ve sparked some joy, please consider sharing!
